Role and Responsibilities
As a Postal Clerk at USPS, you will be responsible for delivering outstanding customer service, managing incoming and outgoing mail, and supporting daily retail operations. Your contribution ensures that customers receive timely and accurate postal services.
- Process incoming and outgoing mail and packages accurately and efficiently
- Sell postage, stamps, and money orders at customer service counters
- Assist customers with mailing needs, including package weighing and shipping options
- Operate computerized point-of-sale systems and maintain cash drawers
- Sort and distribute mail within the facility or to designated routes
- Ensure postal supplies are stocked and retail areas are clean and organized
- Answer customer inquiries regarding USPS products, services, and delivery tracking
Required Skills and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling transactions and mail sorting
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers
- Basic computer literacy and familiarity with point-of-sale systems
- Ability to lift and carry mail items weighing up to 70 pounds
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior customer service experience in a retail or logistics setting
- Familiarity with USPS mailing regulations and products
- Experience working with mail processing equipment or cash handling systems
